Getting started with Connections Academy - Students

Student instructions for joining the Connections Academy program

This program is exclusive to invited Utah Connections Academy students.

Through the Connections Academy program, you can apply your skills in real-world projects to better prepare for your future career. You will engage directly with employers on authentic projects, gain mentorship, and build in-demand employability skills.

1. The Connections Academy team will create your employer project teams - each with 2-3 students. You will then be matched with an employer project based on your enrolled subject areas.

2. Each team member will receive an email inviting you to set up your Riipen account and join the Connections Academy portal. Complete the below fields and click ‘’Create account."


3. Once in the Connections Academy portal, you will be able to view the details of your team’s project. First, you need to digitally sign and agree to the Connections Academy Terms and Conditions. You will then be prompted to accept your invitation to join your team.


4. Clicking on your initials avatar in the top right corner, you can edit your profile. Add your pronouns (optional), and you can further personalize your profile by including a photo, your bio, and uploading your resume. This will be shared with employers when you are working on their project.

5. Once your profile is set up, select “My projects” from the left navigation, and click on your team. Each student will have an individual workspace on the Riipen platform to track contributions and milestones.


6. Next complete the participant pre-project survey.

7. You’re now all set to begin working on your Connections Academy project! Click “Start project” and send a welcome message to the employer.
