Participation Overview

Students must read and adhere to these terms and conditions to participate in a Western Governors University School of Technology experience.

1. Project Timeline & Cohort Dates

  • Projects must be completed within the allotted time period meeting the required hours (40-60) set by my institution.

2. Project Requirements

To receive the certification of completion and badge, I must:

  • Ensure I am officially registered and matched to the project on the Riipen platform before the start date.

    • This includes, but is not limited to:

      • Accepting an invitation from Riipen to join the project.

      • Creating and setting up my Riipen account.

      • Selecting a project prior to the start date.

      • Completing any required pre-surveys.

      • Clicking the “Start Project” button on my team page.

      • Sending a welcome message to the employer, introducing myself and highlighting my skills.

  • Maintain open communication with the project employer throughout the term of the project using the chat feature on the Riipen platform.

  • Complete required hours of work within the experience timeline.

  • Submit all required deliverables through the Riipen platform, including the final project submission, and a brief reflection on my experience.

  • Complete and submit all check-ins, milestones, and surveys on the team page, including the project exit survey.

Failure to complete a milestone (e.g., starting the project, submitting surveys, or completing required milestones) within 5 days of the due date will result in the team being marked as “Incomplete.” Once marked as Incomplete, the team will no longer be eligible to continue with the project.

Failure to complete the project in full may also result in disqualification from participating in future projects through this program.

Project switching is not permitted once matched. Learners are expected to carefully review the project requirements in advance and ensure the opportunity aligns with their interests and skillset prior to selecting or accepting a project.

3. Respectful Behaviour Agreement

I agree to:

  • Conduct myself with respect and professionalism at all times.

  • Refrain from harassment, discrimination, hate speech, threats, or abusive behaviour.

  • Understand that violations of the Student Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by the Student Conduct Board.

  • Understand that violations may lead to immediate removal, suspension, or termination without notice.

  • Accept Riipen’s decision as final regarding the termination of my participation due to a violation of this agreement.

  • Accept full responsibility for my conduct while using this platform.
