4. Guide to completing a project

Congratulations on starting your project!

Updated over 4 weeks ago

You must be invited into the Breaking Barriers with TELUS Friendly Future Foundation and Riipen program to apply to projects. If you haven't already, visit the student landing page and complete the intake form.

Successfully completing your project involves careful planning, consistent communication, and staying on track with your required milestones. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth and successful experience.

1. Maintain an Active Team State

Your team must be in an active state throughout the project period. If your team status is currently marked as “incomplete”, it may mean that a required step was missed.

Need help? Visit the "Teams" page for more information on resolving incomplete status issues.

2. Log Your Work Hours

To meet the project requirements, students must log 60 hours of work throughout the project using the worklog feature.

Work Hour Guidelines:

✅ Minimum: 8 hours per week

🚫 Maximum: 30 hours per week

⛔ Daily Limit: 10 hours per day

Be sure to log your hours consistently and accurately to avoid any delays in project approval.

3. Communicate Regularly

Effective communication is key to a successful project!

💬 Use the messaging feature on Riipen to stay in touch with your employer.

📅 Regular check-ins help ensure everyone is aligned and meeting deadlines.

4. Submit Your Final Deliverables

Once you've completed all required project work, including logging your work hours, it’s time to submit your final deliverables. You can only do this if your team is in an active state.

The submission must include three things:

  1. A reflection note on your project work. How did it go? What did you learn?

  2. Upload your deliverables with original work. These need to reflect your 60 hours of work and must be in line with the project scope.

  3. Your 60 hours work tracked in Riipen's worklog feature. Once the submission has been made, the student will be notified to complete an exit survey.

NOTE: Make sure that you start the project and end it before the cohort deadlines. Missing these deadlines could impact your payment eligibility.

Payments will be reviewed by the program team once the employer provides feedback on a project submission and the student exit survey has been received.

Employers: After the project concludes, you'll be asked to complete an exit survey, reflect on the student's work, and give feedback directly on Riipen. This feedback is crucial for processing your student(s) payment(s) promptly. You can provide feedback on the team page on Riipen, located on the Overview tab, below their final submission.

Please confirm the completion and approval of the student's final deliverables. If two weeks pass without feedback from the Breaking Barriers employer, the Riipen team will contact the employer. If there's no response, the program team will review your final deliverable(s) on behalf of the employer, potentially causing a delay in payment.
