Moodle LTI integration

How to enable the Moodle LTI integration for your experience on Riipen

Connecting your Riipen experience with Moodle via LTI enables learners to use the full Riipen platform directly through a Moodle activity / assignment. Learner accounts are automatically created when learners view Riipen in Moodle for the first time. No sign-up required!

Enabling the Moodle LTI integration

Administrator Setup

The following steps need to be completed inside of Moodle.

  1. Sign into Moodle as an administrator

  2. Click "Site Administration" on the side menu

  3. Go the the "Plugins" tab and find the "Manage Tools" link

  4. Click "Configure a Tool Manually", then fill out the following fields:

Tool

Enter a name, e.g. Riipen

Tool URL

https://{subdomain}.riipen.com

Important:

Don't forget the trailing / in the tool URL

Consumer Key

Get one of your portal's keys "public token" in the settings -> keys tab of your portal in Riipen. Create a key if one does not exist.

Shared Secret

Get one of your portal's keys "secret token" in the settings -> keys tab of your portal in Riipen. Create a key if one does not exist.

Default Launch Container

Select "New Window"

Tool configuration usage

Show as preconfigured tool when adding an external tool

The new Riipen app will now appear in the tools screen.

Educator Setup

The following steps need to be completed inside of Moodle.

  1. Open your course

  2. Select "Turn Editing On"

  3. Select "Add an Activity or Resource",

  4. Select "External tool", fill out the following fields, then click "Save & Display":

Activity Name

Riipen

Preconfigured tool

automatic, based on tool URL

Tool URL

https://{subdomain}.riipen.com

Secure tool URL

https://{subdomain}.riipen.com/lti/experiences/[experience_id]

Your Riipen experience is now integrated with your Moodle course!
