Best practices for managing your projects

Updated over a week ago

Once learners begin your project, under your guidance, they will not only need to complete the needed tasks, but they will also need to manage the project along the way with you.

Here are the best ways you can properly manage your project and provide guidance to your learners.

Designate roles, responsibilities, and tasks

If learners are working as part of a team, you should suggest they designate individuals within the team to specific roles and then further divide the responsibilities and tasks of the team amongst everyone.

It is recommended to have one person designated as the team leader who coordinates all work and is the main point of contact with you.

Define your work hours

Most project work will be conducted remotely, which means you and the learners will have more flexibility in how and when projects are complete. Consider setting consistent and clear project working hours, hours of communication, and expected response times.

Communicate progress

As learners complete work on the project, have them share their progress with you as appropriate. This will help you understand where you are currently at, if any changes to the project need to be made, and can help you unblock them if anything is preventing them from accomplishing the tasks.

For longer projects, recurring progress meetings can be great for this.

Create milestones

Many projects can be broken down into key phases or have intermediate deliverables leading up to the final work product. Set up shorter term milestones with the learners and have them deliver the work product as appropriate at those times so that you can provide further guidance and feedback which will both keep the project on track and also can be used to correct any issues along the way.
