Verification is a required step for many programs that need additional assurance about their company partners. However, it also benefits you across the entire Riipen marketplace by increasing trust and credibility in your company profile.
Riipen has partnered with a third-party provider, Persona, to handle the verification process. Persona is GDPR- and CCPA-compliant, ensuring the secure storage of personally identifiable information (PII). You can learn more on Persona’s security page and their blog about safe PII storage.
General
Availability
Currently, only companies in the following countries can verify their identity:
Canada
United States
Prerequisites
To verify your company's identity, you will need:
Proof of your own identity with a valid photo government-issued ID
Your company's business tax identification number and registered address (Canada: first 9 digits of your Federal Business Number (“BN”), United States: 9 digit Tax Identification Number (“TIN”) or Employer Identification Number (“EIN”))
Proof of your company's address, usually in the form of a bill or invoice.
Proof of your company's registration at the federal or province/state level.
Status
Once verified, other users will see a verification badge displayed on your company name and profile wherever it appears on-platform in the form of a blue checkmark.
Location locking
When you verify, your company’s location will be set based on the information provided during verification and will be locked from further changes. This ensures that your verified location matches what is displayed to other users. If you need to change your company’s location, you can remove verification at any time and re-verify with new details via your company’s settings page.
ID verification requirements
When verifying your identity, you will need to:
Select your ID country of origin
A valid photo ID, such as a:
Driver’s license
Passport
Health card
Age of majority card (options vary by country of origin selected at the start of the verification process)
If you are under 18 years old, Riipen will need to manually review your ID verification.
A working webcam or front-facing camera with permission enabled for Persona to access your device’s camera.
Canadian employer verification
Canadian companies will be required to provide:
Registered business name
Registered business address
Business Number (BN) (see below for details)
Two forms of documentation:
Proof of business address (hydro bills, invoices, lease agreements, etc.)
Proof of business registration at the federal or provincial level
What is a Business Number (BN)?
A Business Number is a 15-character identifier found on documents received from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Example: 987654321RC0001.
The first nine numbers uniquely identify the business—this is what you need to provide.
If you do not have a BN, you can provide your business registration number, e.g.:
British Columbia: BC0000000
Alberta: TN00000000
Ontario: 0000000000
U.S. employer verification
U.S. companies will be required to provide:
Registered business name
Registered business address
Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) (see below for details)
Two forms of documentation:
Proof of business address (hydro bills, invoices, lease agreements, etc.)
Proof of business registration at the federal or state level
What is a TIN/EIN?
A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify businesses required to file tax returns.

Verification Review
Verifications, at times, require additional review. This occurs when either the identity verification portion or the company verification portion fail specific criteria required for successful verification after 1-3 attempts.
If your verification is in review, a member of Riipen’s Compliance Team will manually review your verification within 2-3 business days. During this process they will review that:
Identity verification:
You have used a valid photo government ID
Your likeness matches your ID
You did not attempt to spoof or use any filters during the selfie portion
You do not have multiple accounts
Business verification:
Your registered business name matches your company name on the platform
You provided a valid 9-digit business number
You provided a valid business address
Your business is registered and active at the location provided according to publicly available registries and databases
Your business documents match your provided business name, business number, and business address
Your documents are not tampered with or altered in any way
Once a verification is reviewed, you will receive a notification of the decision: approved or declined. If your verification is declined, there was not sufficient information provided and you will need to retry. If your verification has not been reviewed within 2-3 business days, please ensure to check your email inbox for notices from compliance@riipen.com, as there are likely additional steps required of you before you can re-attempt verification.
Troubleshooting
My company verification is not going through
If your company verification fails, try the following:
Confirm that the business name and address match your registration documents.
Use the correct business identifier for your country, such as a Business Number in Canada or an EIN/TIN in the United States.
Upload documents that show both proof of business registration and proof of business address.
If you are a nonprofit or small organization, use official registration or incorporation documents where available.
If you have more than 1 company on Riipen or have multiple accounts, check which account you are logged in as and which company you are currently operating under.

Employers: Legal name, Canadian Business Number (or registration number if you do not have a BN), and proof of address/registration documentation.
What are the most common verification issues?
Most common verification issues include:
Choosing the wrong ID type. Please ensure that when choosing the ID type to verify that it is the same as the ID type you are providing and is a valid photo ID type (i.e. if providing a paper passport select “passport” and not “passport card”).
Selfie does not match ID. Please ensure that when verifying your identity that the image of your ID is taken in good lighting with minimal glare so that your ID portrayed is not obstructed and please ensure your selfies are taken in a well lit space.
Multiple accounts. Riipen users cannot verify with multiple accounts. In order to proceed through the verification process you will need to merge your user accounts. Please note that if you are trying to verify for different account types (i.e. learner account and employer account) you will need to reach out to the support chat (Messages widget on the bottom right of your screen).
Incorrect formatting of business number or business address. Please ensure when inputting your company’s tax identification number, you are inputting a 9-digit number only. When inputting your registered company address, where possible, it is best to select your business address from Persona’s dropdown to ensure your business address is formatted correctly. Formatting issues when inputting your business number or address may prohibit you from progressing to the remaining verification steps.
Failed business registry check. Please ensure that when inputting your business address that you are matching your registered business address, including all registered street, suite, postal code, and business number formatting. If you’re still encountering issues you will need to reach out to the support chat (Messages widget icon on the bottom right of your screen) with your business address and registration documentation.
