Understanding portal passes, for companies

Updated over 6 months ago

As an employer who's a member of a company, you'll see the menu option "Portals" in the "Company" group of your main navigation. This section lists all portals for which your company has a portal pass.

When you have a portal pass, you company is able to access the portal's private content within their unique subdomain such as demoschool.riipen.com. This private content will include the experiences that portal only offers to its portal pass holding companies, unique workflows, and more.

Aside from accessing the portal's private content, you will also be able to promote your projects directly to that portal in their private marketplace putting your projects front and center within the portal and ensuring higher quality matches to the private experiences and better long lasting relationships with the educators inside that portal.

It's not necessary to have any portal passes to use Riipen as you can still operate within the open side of the platform, creating projects and matching with experiences, you just won't be able to access the elusive content portals have locked behind their portal passes.

General

Access

Your company will be able to obtain a portal pass in several different ways:

  • By application - portals can optionally allow companies to apply for a portal pass. Portals will configure a set of questions for you to answer about your company and then can determine whether or not to issue you a portal pass based on any sort of criteria they are looking to fulfill.

  • By invitation - portal administrators may already have a connection with you or your company from outside of Riipen and they can choose to invite you and your company directly into their portal with a portal pass invite. These invites will appear in your email notifications and you can simple accept them to obtain your portal pass.

Portal Customization

When are you working inside of a portal on their subdomain, you will see all of that portal's customization in place including, colors, brands / logos, and probably the most distinctive, their custom vocabulary. Portal can choose to customize specific key words, so where you see the word "Experience" in one portal, another might call it a "Course" or a "Program". The full list of customizable words by a portal are:

  • Company

  • Educator

  • Employer

  • Experience

  • Learner

  • Portal

Even if a portal has customized a word, the functionality behind it will remain the same.

You will also see portal customization when you receive notifications regarding content from a specific portal that your company has a portal pass for.

Private marketplaces

With a portal pass, you will have access to that portal's private marketplaces. When you click "Find experiences" within a portal, you will be shown that portal's private experiences that only portal pass holders have access to.

Similarly, when you create and publish a project within a portal, it will automatically be added to that portal's private marketplace of projects which only educators inside that portal have access to, thus making your projects more exclusive to that portal.

You can choose to post a project in one or many different portals if your company has multiple portal passes, and you can also always post your project to the open marketplace.

Scoping & Navigation

When you working inside of a portal, all of the content you will see, including your projects, teams, matches and more will be restricted to just content specific to that portal.

If your company has multiple portal passes, you can easily switch between portals or exit a portal and return to a non portal view.

If you are not working inside of a portal, you will see all of your content like projects, teams, matches and more, no matter which portal is happens to be affiliated with.

When you receive notifications such as emails notifications or SMS notificaitons, clicking any of the actions within the notification will automatically send you to the correct portal if your company has a portal pass for the portal that content is linked to, so you never have to worry about navigating between portals.
