Scoring is used to assign numerical scores or grades to outcomes for learners as they complete projects.

Rubrics
All activity that is scored for learners and team starts with one of multiple rubrics. Rubrics can be assigned to:
Team submission - the final submission made from a team as part of their project
Milestone submission - the submission made to any milestone created by the experience.
Feedback - Feedback received from a team's project employer
These items can be considered the deliverable(s) of the rubric or the item that will be scored.
Each rubric can be configured with the following:
Points - This is how much each rubric contributes to the overall score. You can think of it as the "weight" of the rubric. For example, if you have 3 rubrics with point values of 2, 2, and 5, the total score possible would be 9 points. A learner who scores perfectly would get 9 out of 9.
Scoring system - What determinant is used to generate a score:
Scoring system | Description |
Completion | The deliverable itself existing, such as submission made or feedback received. |
Assessment | A qualitative assessment of the deliverable itself using a rubric with 1 or more criteria, and optional performance levels per criterion. |
Scoring type - How scoring will be conducted:
Scoring type | Scoring system | Description |
Automatic | Completion | Full points are automatically awarded on completion. |
| Assessment | A learner can receive a score from 0 to the rubric maximum value. Assessment can be completed by AI or manually. If AI assessment is selected, human review can be required before publishing scores. |
Learners & team scoring
For learners within teams, a rubric applied to a team completion submission such as a team milestone or final submission will receive a single score, applied to all members of the team. Individual completion milestones can award a unique score to each member of the team.
Thus a learner has a mix of team and individual scores, and has a total score for the project which is unique to them.
Learners will always be able to see any enabled rubrics you have set, along with their criteria and scoring mechanisms. They will be able to see these on the experience page, their team pages and any deliverables pages before and after they create or receive their deliverable.
Employers
Employers who are part of projects being completed by your learners will never be shown any scoring information, including rubrics or scores teams have received.
LMS grade passback - LTI 1.1-1.3
The scoring system can be configured to automatically send a team's score to any integrated LMS as the grade for an assignment (or its LMS equivalent). Once any rubric for team is scored, their grade will be automatically passed back to the LMS.
If a new score is created for another rubric, or an existing score is updated for a team, the new grade will be passed back to the LMS as their new score. For example, if you have the following rubrics set up
5 points for a submitted milestone
10 points for a final submission
5 points for received feedback
Then the grade passback would work as follows:
Team submits milestone and has a grade of 5/20 passed back
Team then makes final submission and has their grade updated to 15/20
Team then receives feedback and has their grade updated to 20/20
Depending on your LMS, this may overwrite existing scores or you may be asked to accept, or ignore, the grade "edit" inside your LMS.
LMS grade passback - LTI Advantage
With LTI Advantage integration enabled, the scoring system can be configured to automatically send a team's score to any integrated LMS as the grade for an assignment (or its LMS equivalent).
Each scored item can be linked to a distinct assignment within the LMS. Once any rubric for the team or individual member is scored, their grade will be automatically passed back to the LMS.
If a published score is updated, the new grade will be passed back to the LMS as their new score. Depending on your LMS, this may overwrite existing scores or you may be asked to accept, or ignore, the grade "edit" inside your LMS.
Updating scoring
While some scoring or grading systems lock scoring options once learners have begun activity, you will always remain in control of how and when or what learners are scored on even after activity has begun.
Turning rubrics off - If you decide to turn rubric off, meaning you no longer wish to score a particular deliverable, all new and historical teams will be impacted. That rubric will be removed from their overall score and learners will no longer be able to see the rubric or any historical score they have have received.
Turning rubrics on - If you decide to turn a new rubric on, meaning you want to score a new deliverable, all new and historical teams will be impacted. That rubric will be added to their overall score and learners will now see the rubric. Once you add a rubric, you may want to or need to synchronize all historical activity of learners and teams. For example, if you add a milestone submission rubric and teams have already made submission to it, you can choose to synchronize historical activity to have scores generated for those teams.
Editing rubrics - If you edit a rubric which has published scores associated with it, all existing published scores for that rubric are returned to "draft" and must be re-published using the new rubric.
How to
Enable or disable scoring
To enable scoring on an experience:
Navigate to your experience
Click the "Settings" tab
Click "Scoring" in the "Project Management" group
Check or uncheck "Scoring enabled for learners and teams"
Click "Save"
Configure rubrics
To configure scoring rubrics on an experience:
Navigate to your experience
Click the "Settings" tab
Click "Scoring" in the "Project Management" group
In the "Rubric settings" section, configure your rubrics as needed including enabling specific rubrics, setting points, and scoring systems and types.
Click "Save"
Note that you can configure rubrics without having scoring enabled. Rubrics will only be in affect if the experience has scoring enabled.
Synchronize scoring
If you have made non historical impact rubric configuration changes and you want to apply them historically, you can synchronize scoring setting by following these steps:
Navigate to your experience
Click the "Settings" tab
Click "Scoring" in the "Project Management" group
Click the "Synchronize scoring" button
Confirm you want to synchronize scoring
Note that score synchronizing happens asynchronously as it may take a few minutes to synchronize all scores depending on how many teams your experience has.
Enable or disable LMS grade passback
To enable scores to be passed back to an integrated LMS on an experience:
Navigate to your experience
Click the "Settings" tab
Click "Scoring" in the "Project Management" group
Check or uncheck "Passback score to integrated LMS assignment as grade"
Click "Save"
Note that scoring on the experience must be enabled for this option to appear.
View a learner's score
To view the score for a learner:
Navigate to the experience page
Select the Teams tab
Select the "Scoring" view from the team tracker.
You will see the progress of each learner and their scoring status, including draft scores.
View a rubric
To view the details of an individual rubric that is part of your experience's scoring
Navigate to the experience
View enabled rubrics in the sidebar
