Understand the Project Scope Early

Before beginning work on your Project, take time to carefully review the project description, goals, and deliverables. You will typically have a kickoff meeting with the employer to align on the scope and deliverables as well.

To set yourself up for success:

  • Read the project brief thoroughly

  • Identify the main problem the company is trying to solve, and align on this during the kickoff call

  • Note key deadlines or milestones

  • Clarify the expected final deliverables

Communicate Professionally and Consistently

Clear communication is one of the most important professional skills you can demonstrate during a project.

Students should aim to:

  • Send regular updates on project progress

  • Ask questions if you encounter challenges

  • Respond to employer messages in a timely manner

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully

Manage Your Time Effectively

Riipen projects require approximately 30 hours of work, so effective time management is important. To stay on track:

  • Break the project into smaller tasks, consulting with the employer if necessary

  • Set personal deadlines for each phase

  • Schedule regular work sessions

  • Allow time for revisions before submitting deliverables

Ask Questions and Seek Feedback

Employers understand that you are a student and are there to support your learning.

If you are unsure about something:

  • Ask clarifying questions early

  • Request feedback on early drafts or ideas

  • Confirm that you are moving in the right direction

Reflect on Your Experience

At the end of your project, take time to reflect on what you learned.

You may want to:

  • Add the experience to your resumé or LinkedIn profile.

  • You can also post your certificate and written feedback to your LinkedIn to show your network your accomplishments

  • Connect with your employer on LinkedIn
